[00:00:38] Good morning, good afternoon, good evening, whenever and wherever you're listening to it. Welcome to the so yeah podcast with your girl, Carolina Lyman.
[00:00:55] I don't know what musical voice that was, but we're taking it. It's sending.
[00:01:02] It is time.
[00:01:04] It is time. I finished watching season one of Glee.
[00:01:12] Wow.
[00:01:14] This entire episode will be about Glee Season 1. If you do not care, you can switch on if you're like, wow, this might inspire me to watch Glee. Sure, there are spoilers. I mean, it did come out in 2010, so you're late. That was 15 years ago. Holy shit. That was 15 years ago.
[00:01:37] Spooky.
[00:01:39] Wow. So going back on my personal journey with Glee.
[00:01:45] I was there, okay? I was there. I watched it weekly just like the rest of the people in high school. I remember I would go to school all day long, and then I would go to dance all night long for, like, five hours. And then if it was a Glee night, which I think it came out on Tuesdays or Wednesday nights, I would watch it on TiVo. TiVo.
[00:02:10] And then I would come to school the next day with barely any sleep. And because if you did not watch Glee the night before, it would be completely ruined for you when you came to school. Okay.
[00:02:23] Completely ruined. So I'm not doing that to myself. Absolutely newly, no. So I'd rather not sleep and definitely not do my homework.
[00:02:36] It always got done. But I was scribbling, scrabbling all the way to dance. In other classes, I was doing my homework. You better believe it. Okay, so I watched it in real time, and then I. Again, I think I teetered off, like, maybe, like, season three. I think there's six seasons, five seasons plain. I don't know.
[00:02:58] I'm not sure exactly where it teetered off. Probably when they, like, went to New York. But I digress. We're not even there yet. So I have been wanting to watch Glee from the beginning for a very long time. And I thought the time is now. Madison was bullying me. She was like, you have to watch it. I can't wait to watch it with through you. And whenever I come over, we can watch an EP or two or four, whatever. So I.
[00:03:24] I'm telling you, like, yes. Like, I was there and I lived it, but I couldn't tell you. Major plot points. Okay? So it was literally. It's like watching it for the first time again. And what's crazy about watching it again is, like, remembering the songs and, like, kind of the arrangement of the songs, but, like, not realizing that that's where it came from or, oh, this is in the plot point. Like, what? The first off the bat. That first episode is absolutely cuckoo bananas crazy. Okay? It is crazy because, like, what do you mean?
[00:04:00] Mr. Schuster. Will Schuster. That man is the villain. Okay. I haven't watched the rest of the program yet, but that man is a villain. Okay? He literally frames Finn, the lead man, because he heard him singing in the shower in between football practice. He heard him singing in the shower and planted weed in his backpack so then he could confiscate it. And then, oh, in a way, to not get suspended or anything. Then he has to join the Glee club. What?
[00:04:33] What a crazy cookie, man.
[00:04:36] Also, within, like, the. The characters, it kind of was a little jarring at first to rewatch the first season and see literally three cast members that are dead now, which. That is Cory Monteith, Mark Saling, and then Naya Rivera. The three of them have passed away through, like, through the program, after the program. And it's just kind of like a little eerie watching. And I know I've, like, obviously, I've watched plenty of things with dead people now in them, but it was just, like, a little odd because it doesn't feel that long ago and because it felt so important at the time to me. But Finn, Cory Monteith, like, I felt this at the time watching the show.
[00:05:16] He's not, like, the best singer. Like, obviously, like, there's parts of his character that's, like, very endearing. It's like, oh, he can't really sing that well, but, like, baby, he is sharp. Like, I don't. He doesn't sound that good, especially when he's with Lea Michelle, which I have to say, yes, we could say all the things about, you know, Lea Michelle in real life, because I'm sure that she's a.
[00:05:38] She seems like one, but damn, that bitch could sing. Holy.
[00:05:43] Holy.
[00:05:44] She could sing. You know what? If I could sing like that, too, I might be a little cunty. I'm already a little cunty. I can't sing like that. So, yeah, like, imagine if I could actually, like.
[00:05:59] Like, I would actually be insufferable to my haters out there who already think I'm Insufferable. It could be worse.
[00:06:08] But anyway, like, the plot is, like.
[00:06:11] It's so crazy. Like, it actually feels, like, insane. It actually feels insane. And I think that the best character, obviously, is Sue Sylvester, like, not even up for discussion. If I could put, like, my Mount Rushmore of best TV characters, she would definitely be up there because she is such a fucking bitch. And I love it. I would love to play a character like that. And the thing that I love about Glee and the way it is presented, first of all, it is like lightning in a bottle TV show. This show can never happen again.
[00:06:54] Ever happen again. Okay. In the way that it was. Because now there was, like, TikTok, and there'd be, like, phone stuff, and then it'd be like, all songs and that are popular on TikTok that they want to, like, you know, copyright. Like, it would be too much. Okay. Also, where we couldn't make this TV show again because we. We are in now in a time of which I think is reverting backwards a little bit of, like, serious wokeness. And, like, yes, of course. Like, do I think that everybody should be accounted for and, like, being kind to one another? Sure, of course.
[00:07:25] But with comedy and the reason why comedy is funny, in my opinion.
[00:07:34] Let me. Let me say that again. The reason why comedy is funny, in my opinion, is when everybody gets made fun of everybody. Nobody is safe. You're ugly, gay, white, Asian, like, anything. Like, we should all be able to go and make jokes about everything. Of course, there's, like. There's obviously levels and extremism to all those things, as is everything in life. But I think that is the beauty of that show is because it makes fun of everybody and nobody is safe. And I love programs like that. Also a villain in the show is goddamn Terry. That's Will Schuster's wife. Every time she was on screen, I hated her, which means she was playing the character properly.
[00:08:22] Basically.
[00:08:24] Will, who is the teacher of the Glee club, he is married to this woman, Terry. They're high school sweethearts. He was in the Glee club. She was like, a cheerleader, which I'm also like, if he was in the Glee club, you didn't win, babe. Like, that is a loser. Right?
[00:08:39] Well, you know, the Glee L. The loser, obviously.
[00:08:44] But, like, very early on, like, she gets pregnant, and then she finds out that it's a hysterical pregnancy, which means that, like, you have symptoms of being pregnant, but you're not actually with child.
[00:08:54] And she already told Will that she was pregnant. And then she started to just, like, Pretend that she was pregnant and then try to coerce Quinn, who was in high school, a child, to give her the baby and walk it off like it was hers. Are you that crazy? Ms. Sheets and Things? I can't. I can't. I hate her. And I hope that she does not come back after the season. I hope that divorce.
[00:09:22] She's done. And then he just walks into Emma Pillsbury's arms. He. Even though she kind of freaks me out a little bit. But I digress.
[00:09:30] Those songs were so good.
[00:09:34] Holy. I remember my sister doesn't listen to the podcast because she's a hater, but we used to crank that at 7am in the Honda Civic. Oh, my God. I remember.
[00:09:46] I. I thought that Mercedes sang I bust the windows out.
[00:09:51] I didn't know until literally, like six years ago that it was actually Jasmine Sullivan's song. I thought it was Amber Riley's song. She ate it up. I love Mercedes. That's my girl. Her fashion in it. Amazing. The songs are so goddamn good.
[00:10:08] Don't stop believing, babes. Honestly, push it.
[00:10:12] Oh, I definitely have added the soundtrack into my rotation of songs, but of Kiars.
[00:10:19] What else? The choreography. Let's give it up for Zach Woodley.
[00:10:25] Oh, my God. Like, out the gate, boom. We are dancing. They are flipping. They are partnering levels, different shots. Like, honestly, he put his ass into that choreography and he does have a co producing credit and his name is the first when it rolls the credits. And I love that. So shout out to Zach Woodley. I hope you're still making a zillion dollars from that program.
[00:10:50] Also, what I love about the start of Glee, I love watching if it's a good show.
[00:10:55] I love watching the first season of a show because you could definitely. It's like we're trying to figure out our nuts and bolts, right? And there's usually not a lot of money, obviously, from the studios because you had to prove yourself. And the fashion costuming, the costuming in that first season is so.
[00:11:15] Oh, it's so Walmart. And I love it. Like, honestly, it's. It's amazing. It's amazing. It's perfectly poignant for the time. And there's like, oh, my God, there's so many gay things and straight things and I don't know, I just love the show. So I'm at Pregnant teen pregnancy. Like, they really cover every topic that a young person is going through.
[00:11:38] And yeah, it's just spectacular. Like, yeah, Ryan Murphy is crazy, but, like, crazy good.
[00:11:49] Why did I do that? That was crazy.
[00:11:53] But anyway, Ryan Murphy, thank you so much for your service.
[00:11:58] Brad and Ian, thank you for your service of creating one of the best shows that I've ever seen. And I cannot wait to talk more about the seasons as it progresses on the podcast. And if you want to message me with any of your Glee things, I know Madison and Yachty will definitely be messaging me about it, but keep your eyes and ears peeled. Pearled peeled. Hey, we keep even the stutters because what? I'm human? I am not AI Yet. No, no, no.
[00:12:33] So, yeah.
